Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cardiovascular diseases have constantly been on the first position among the causes of death in Moldova during two decades. These diseases account for 57 per cent of all deaths caused by the non-transmissible diseases. The National Public Health Agency (ANSP) has unveiled data to this effect, in the context of the World Heart Day, marked on 29 September.

This year, the World Heart Day is marked with the title, Use heart for action. The campaign’s goal is to motivate the countries to develop and support national action plans for the prevention of the cardiovascular diseases.

According to ANSP, the incidence of the cardiovascular diseases in 2023 was of 206.5 cases per 10,000 residents, increasing against the 2022, when 200.5 cases per 10,000 residents were recorded. The reasons for the development of the cardiovascular diseases are associated with a string of behavioral risk factors, such as: smoking, unsound nourishment, abuse of alcohol, physical inactivity, as well as physiological risk factors, such as the high blood pressure, high level of cholesterol in blood, high glucose, obesity, along with such factors as the age, gender and genetic predisposition.

Over 10,000 patients were hospitalized at the Cardiology Institute in 2023

The Cardiology Institute is the key institution at the republican level which deals with the treatment of the cardio-vascular diseases.

„Last year, over 10,000 patients were hospitalized at the Cardiology Institute. Approximately 1,000 people were served at the emergency reception unit and about 5,000 at the consultative section. About 50 per cent of the investigations are invasive at the institution. It would about 5,000 cases,’’ the director of the Cardiology Institute, Vitalie Moscalu, said.

Moscalu stressed that that the number of surgery interventions was increasing year after year.

The cardiologic diseases are on top of the diseases from which the Moldovans suffer

„The diseases hit more and more young people. At the same time, the age factor has a significant weight. The cardiologic diseases are on the top of the diseases from which the Moldovans suffer. Patients take no care of their health and come with complications. Unfortunately, the figures are alarming. An ageing of the population is noticed, which brings us a bigger weight of cardiovascular diseases,’’ Vitalie Moscalu also said.
