Moldovan PM has meeting with IMF mission

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - The recent developments in the economy, the perspectives at the macroeconomic level and the stage of the implementation of the reforms’ agenda today were discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the mission of the International Monetary Fund. The mission is led by Alina Iancu and is in Chisinau on 1-11 October, the government’s communication department has reported.
The discussions take place in the context of the sixth evaluation of the programme backed through the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the second evaluation of the programme supported through the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
PM Dorin Recean stressed that the government presently pursued two main goals: the re-launch of the economy and the ensuring of peace and security. ‘’We want to enhance the confidence of consumers and investors in our economy, affected by the current regional context,’’ the prime minister said.
The interlocutors also discussed the justice reform and the fight against corruption, the situation in the energy sector, the integration of the Transnistrian region in Moldova’s economic area, the consolidation of the financial and banking sector, with emphasis on the framework of activity of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
„The justice reform is at the basis of all the other reforms, with a systemic approach needed. It is essential that there are honest people in the system and the institutions in the field should be sustainable, independent and, at the same time, not isolated,’’ the PM noted.
The IMF mission said that the latest macroeconomic developments showed a correct direction for the economic recovery. The experts appreciated the detailed information provided by the authorities and assured of the full support of the international financial institution for the national economy and the pressing ahead with the reforms.
The Moldovan authorities’ programme, backed by the IMF through the ECF and EFF facilities, with duration of 40 years, was approved on 21 December 2021. In May 2022, the volume of crediting was increased up to 805 million dollars, of which about 608 million dollars has been already disbursed.
Besides, in December 2023, a new programme worth about 175 million dollars was approved, supported through RSF facility, of which about 44 million dollars has been already disbursed.
