Germany celebrates National Day today

Chisinau, Oct. 3 /MOLDPRES/- The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) marks National Day today - the anniversary of reunification on October 3, 1990.
The country's surface area is 357 thousand square kilometers, with 83.02 million inhabitants, and it has the largest population in the European Union.
It is a parliamentary federal republic made up of 16 states, called Länder. The federal capital is Berlin, with a population of over 3.4 million. Germany was a founding member of the European Community in 1957, which became the European Union in 1993. The country is a member of the United Nations, NATO, G8, G20 and OECD.
German industry is one of the most developed in the world. Germany exports industrial machinery and equipment, means of transportation, metallurgical, chemical and food products. It imports iron ore, non-ferrous metals, oil and oil products, raw materials for the textile industry. It ranks 5th among countries that have invested in Moldova. Among the biggest companies are Dräxlmaier, Südzucker, Mabanaft, Knauf, Metro, Steilmann, Schenker.
Germany also offers the Republic of Moldova undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships through DAAD and other programs, including secondary vocational education. German is studied in our country in about 90 schools by 13 thousand pupils.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany were established on April 30, 1992.
According to information presented by the Public Services Agency, 427 enterprises with German capital are currently operating in the Republic of Moldova, with investments of 773,353 million lei. According to the amount of invested capital, Germany is the 6th largest investor in Moldova, and according to the number of enterprises - the 7th. Südzucker, Dräxlmaier, Steinel Electronic, Gebauer & Griller, Kaufland and others are among the largest German investors in Moldova.
With the support of the German Government, a new Moldovan-German technical assistance project on Agricultural Policy Dialogue is being implemented in our country, under which a team of international experts is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Agency for Intervention and Payments for Agriculture and the National Agency for Food Safety in aligning policies and administrative systems in agriculture, rural development and food safety with EU requirements.
Project activities are funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and implemented by Berlin Economics Consortium and DLG International.
The total trade of the Federal Republic of Germany with the Republic of Moldova increased by 5.3% last year compared to 2022, according to the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania), data taken from the German Federal Statistical Office Destatis. Trade between the two countries exceeded 871.2 million euros. Germany's exports to Moldova amounted to 547.7 million euros, up by 2%, while imports amounted to 323.5 million euros, up by 11.4%. Moldova ranks 95th among Germany's trading partners.
