Moldovan PM has meeting with European Commissioner for Agriculture

Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - The consolidation of the resilience of Moldova’s agricultural sector, as well as the challenges faced by the farmers from the country have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, the government’s communication department reported.
The PM referred to the Moldovan authorities’ effort to substantially transform the agricultural sector. Dorin Recean informed about the support on behalf of the state for agriculture, which had constantly increased in the last years; the sales markets were diversified and the state continued the policies of subsidizing the growing of agricultural products with high value.
In the context, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed that the government would encourage, in continuation, the investments in agriculture and the increase in the productivity, emphasizing the importance of this sector in the process of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. At the same time, the PM reiterated the request of the Moldovan authorities for the creation, by the European Union, of a fund for development and solidarity for the Moldovan agriculture, hit by the climate changes on the last period.
The discussions were focused also on the climate shocks and their impact on the crops, the importance of the investments in the irrigation systems, as well as the consolidation of the agro-food relations between the European Union and Moldova.
