Chisinau, Oct 4 /MOLDPRES/- Maia Sandu, candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for President of the Republic of Moldova discussed on 4 October with several mayors and district heads. The presidential candidate noted that local representatives are in the front line and know best the needs of their communities. "This is too serious a moment for the fate of our country - together with local authorities we must do our best to keep us on the path of freedom and development," Maia Sandu said.
Maia Sandu noted that the Republic of Moldova is currently at a historic moment and EU membership will guarantee security for citizens, opportunities for young people and good living conditions for people.
"I have spoken today with several mayors and district presidents about the fact that Moldova is at a historic moment, when we are defining what kind of country we want to be and what kind of future we want to create for ourselves and for future generations. This is not just a moment of political decision, but a collective challenge to which we all have to respond: the central administration, the local administration and each one of us. EU membership is the guarantee of a future where people feel safe, young people have opportunities and every citizen enjoys dignified living conditions here at home," said Maia Sandu.
The PAS candidate also said that in the last three years the country's localities have benefited from 2.85 billion lei. "We are committed to rehabilitate and modernize three thousand km of roads in the coming years, to allocate at least 8 billion lei for infrastructure projects in localities and to repair all polyclinics in the country. These initiatives are investments in our common future. We have proved that we deliver what we promise - in the last three years, our localities have benefited from 2.85 billion lei - more than 3 times more money than in 2010-2020", Maia Sandu said.
She called for unity at a time when the fate of the country is being decided, so the contribution of each mayor is needed to preserve democracy.
"Local representatives are in the front line and know best the needs of their communities. To move fast on the European path, everyone needs to be fully involved. To preserve democracy we need the contribution of every mayor. We are seeing more and more attempts by country-sellers to stop us in our tracks by bribing voters to sell their vote. It would be dramatic to return to a regime that doesn't care about people, about freedom, it would be dramatic not to get involved now with all our might so that the will of the people dictates the fate of the country, not the dirty money of a criminal group. This is too serious a moment for the fate of our country - together with the local authorities we must do everything we can to keep us on the path of freedom and development," said Maia Sandu.
Maia Sandu is running for her second term as President of the Republic of Moldova, nominated and supported by PAS.
On 20 October, Moldova will hold presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union. 11 candidates have registered to run for the presidency. The electoral campaign will end on 18 October.
