Moldovan president attends National Wine Day

Chisinau, Oct. 6 /MOLDPRES/- Head of state Maia Sandu was present last night at National Wine Day organized on the Great National Assembly Square, an event held on October 5-6. "Every glass of Moldovan wine tells a story - a story of passion and courage. This courage brought us here and will take us further, to more and more international markets", the official said.

Moldovan wine is celebrated this weekend in the center of the capital, where the 23rd edition of the National Wine Day is held. Folk music and dances, traditional dishes and quality wine created a special atmosphere at the biggest celebration dedicated to traditions and wine culture in our country.

The National Wine Day is organized by the National Vine and Wine Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, with USAID Moldova support, through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Project.

The Moldovan Wine Festival, later officially named National Wine Day, took place for the first time in 2002. Traditionally, the event takes place in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau and at wineries in the country, on the first weekend of October, after the harvest the grapes. The festival celebrates the rich traditions of winemaking in Moldova, dating back to the 15th century. The purpose of the event is to promote and strengthen the image of our country as an important wine country, to ensure support for the development of the sector, to know wine products, to facilitate the process of including Moldova on the international wine tourist routes, to attract investors and tourists, to increase the domestic consumption of wine high quality, familiarization with folk customs, culture and traditions.

More than 2% of the world's vineyards are located on the lands of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova is among the top 20 wine-producing countries, being also an important exporter from around the world. The wine industry represents one of the key branches of our country's economy. Moldovan wines are imported by more than 70 countries from different corners of the world.
