Moldovan energy minister has meeting with Ukrainian counterpart in Kiev

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova is prepared for any scenario, even after the expiration of the contract on transit of natural gas across Ukraine, as of 1 January 2025. Energy Minister Victor Parlicov has made statements to this effect. The minister has a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Herman Galushchenko in Kiev.
The two officials discussed the cooperation in the energy sector, management of the crisis situations, as well as the security of the stocks of natural gas which Moldova is storing in Ukraine.
„We are ready to support Ukraine by all means we avail of in the difficult situation of the Ukrainian energy sector, in the wake of the Russian attacks. At the same time, we are grateful to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for the resistance to the Russian aggression, thus protecting the peace also in Moldova and the entire Europe,’’ Victor Parlicov said.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko gave assurances that the stocks of natural gas, deposited by Moldova in Ukraine, were in safety and can be accessed and extracted at any moment. At the same time, Herman Galushchenko stressed that the ensuring of the energy security in the region stayed a priority.
„The energy security of our region and of the European continent, in general, depends, first of all, on our consolidation and resoluteness to oppose the aggressor, especially on the energy front,’’ Galushchenko stressed.
According to the Energy Ministry, Moldova stores in Ukraine a half of the volume of 47 million cubic metres of natural gas, which represents security stocks.
Also, the minister discussed the cooperation in the field of supply with electric energy, given that Moldova and Ukraine are connected, as a single bloc, to the ENTSO-E European continental system. In the context, the Energy Ministry informed that the sides had tackled the subject on the work of the energy system in the conditions of the Russian attacks and the measures necessary for its balancing in emergency situations.
