Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the office of Moldova’s president, Maia Sandu, today discussed with representatives of more associations of ethnic minorities. The candidate for the position of head of state called to unity and stressed that the accession to the European Union provided benefits to all citizens, no matter their ethnic affiliation. ‘’In EU, all ethnic communities are protected, develop their culture, language, traditions.’’ Maia Sandu said.
Maia Sandu talked with citizens about the social cohesion and the way to a family of peace – ‘’the most important goal of her electoral programme.’’ ‘’In the last years, we have done our utmost to preserve the peace and good understanding. I discussed with representatives of more associations of ethnic minorities how can we each contribute to the social cohesion and to our way to a family of peace – an important objective from my Plan for Moldova,’’ the PAS candidate said.
Maia Sandu noted that the power was in the hands of the citizens, in unity.
„Even if we experience a war at the border, from whom some people take advantage unscrupulously, in order to spread fear and panic in our country, the institutions maintained the order and the society preserved its unity. I have always had discussions with all communities of the society; I believe in the value of each man and I am sure that our power comes from our unity. I have never chosen between one citizen and another, between whose holiday is ‘’truer’’; I want to believe that we can live together – each one with his/her memories, griefs and joys. Nobody can make us be on bad terms with each other from abroad, if we ourselves are united and do not fall in the net of those who instigate to hatred,’’ the candidate for the position of Moldovan president also said.
Maia Sandu underlined that, at the elections due on 20 October, the citizens would decide the fate of the country for the next decades. ‘’When we promised to find money for the European Village Programme, we also made no difference between settlements – mayoralties from all regions received money, from Edinet to Taraclia. We invest in a better life; they throw money in lies and procurements of votes. The accession to the European Union is good for all citizens. In EU, all ethnic communities are protected; develop their cultural, language and traditions. On 20 October, we will decide our fate for the next decades. We should not let the small differences between us stop us on the way towards peace and prosperity for everybody,’’ Maia Sandu emphasized.
Maia Sandu runs for the second mandate of Moldova’s president. The candidate is on a visit to Italy, where she has meetings with Moldovans who live in this country.
Presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union will take place in Moldova on 20 October.
Eleven candidates will compete for the office of head of state in all. The electoral campaign ends on 18 October 2024.
