Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - Another 18 citizens of Moldova were evacuated from Lebanon today. The people arrived in safety at the Belgrade airport.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the group of the evacuated citizens is made up of women, children, people with medical problems and other categories who are in the risk zone.
„The evacuation was possible due to complex efforts by MAE and other institutional partners – members of MAE’s crisis cell, of our diplomatic missions from Turkey, accredited for Lebanon, as well as the one from Bucharest, accredited, by plurality, in Serbia, according to the support of the Serbian authorities and of the International Organization for Migration,’’ MAE noted.
Presently, the Moldovan citizens are in a safe location and will be repatriated to Moldova on 9 October.
Also, MAE informed that it prepared the evacuation of another 10 citizens from Lebanon, who had asked for the authorities’ assistance.
In the middle of the last week, another 11 citizens, mostly mothers and children, were evacuated from Lebanon. On 1 October evening, the Moldovans successfully arrived in the Rzeszow city, Poland, where they were met by representatives of Moldova’s diplomatic mission in Warsaw and accommodated at the hotel. The people arrived in Chisinau on 3 October.
On 24 September, MAE issued an alert of travel to the Middle East. The authorities urged Moldova’s citizens who are in Lebanon and the State of Israel, to display vigilance, in the context of the destabilization of the security situation in the region and avoid travels to these areas.
