First Moldova's citizens vote by correspondence for ballot due on 20 October

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - The first citizens of Moldova have given their votes by correspondence for the elections due on 20 October. Thus, for the first time ever for Moldova, the first two votes by correspondence were sent by citizens from Canada. The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, unveiled information to this effect today.

Voda noted that the sealed envelopes had been sent to the polling station from the embassy and will reach the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) for counting.   

„We thus have the first two citizens who participated in the ballot. Each countryman who received the envelope for vote by correspondence has possibility to vote with confidence, observing the instructions which are in the process of voting and send the voting option till 17 October. The envelopes with the votes expressed are expected at all electoral bureaus of the polling stations for the vote by correspondence,’’ Daniel Voda also.   

CEC shipped 1,809 ballot papers for the voting by correspondence. The Moldovan citizens from the United States, Canada and Sweden can sent the vote by correspondence will 17 October, 18:00, local time.   

A number of 234 polling stations were created for the elections in the Diaspora in 37 states, on 3 continents, in North America, Europe and Asia.

The elections for the office of Moldova’s president will be held on 20 October 2024. A republican constitutional referendum will be organized on the same day with the elections and the citizens will have to answer the question: ‘’Do you support the amendment of the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?’’
