Chisinau, Oct 15 /MOLDPRES/- An inter-ministerial memorandum of understanding between the Nordic and Baltic countries and the Moldovan Foreign Ministry was signed today in Chisinau. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement today. The official said "the document will contribute to strengthening Moldova's institutional capacities".
According to the deputy prime minister, the cooperation will contribute to strengthening our country's response to international challenges and rapid adaptation to geopolitical changes.
"The expansion of the diplomatic presence of the Nordic and Baltic countries in Chisinau this year, such as the opening of the Embassy of Denmark and an office of the Embassy of Norway is a clear sign of your firm commitment to back the Republic of Moldova. This expansion not only strengthens bilateral relations, but also creates additional opportunities for cooperation between our citizens, thus facilitating better mutual understanding and the development of ever closer ties", said Popșoi.
The official emphasized that in addition to the country's integration into the European Union, the Republic of Moldova enjoys close cooperation with the Nordic and Baltic states. At the same time, the authorities in Chisinau are determined "to remain a reliable partner for the Nordic and Baltic countries and for the entire European Community".
"Your support, through your presence and concrete actions, gives us confidence and assures us that Moldova will continue to move forward on European path, despite the obstacles we face. We are determined to remain a reliable partner for the Nordic and Baltic countries and for the European Community as a whole. We will remain actively engaged in international efforts to support Ukraine against Russian aggression and to contribute to regional and global security. We remain committed to building a modern, democratic European Moldova, able to cope with contemporary challenges and to assume an increasingly active role in the European Community", said Popșoi.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also thanked Sweden for coordinating the Nordic-Baltic format.
Eight foreign affairs ministers of Nordic-Baltic 8 (NB8) format - Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden - are visiting Chisinau on October 15. The meeting was hosted by Popșoi.
Nordic-Baltic 8 (NB8) is a regional cooperation format on topical regional and international issues. In 2024, NB8 is chaired by Sweden, which took over the coordination of the format after Latvia in 2023.
