Chisinau, Oct 16 /MOLDPRES/- Farmers whose wheat crops have suffered losses of more than 70 percent due to drought this summer can benefit from free seed material as of today. The aid will be offered under a written application, which farmers must submit to the district agricultural departments.
The distribution of the seed material starts after the order by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry on distribution of autumn wheat seeds purchased through the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's Emergency Project was published in the Official Journal. The document sets out how the support is calculated and eligibility conditions.
To be eligible, beneficiaries must be the owner or holder of agricultural land planted with wheat and must have documentation of the damage in 2024.
Support will be distributed according to the degree of damage to agricultural crops. Thus, farmers can benefit from 30 kg of wheat seed per hectare for losses between 70% and 80%, up to a limit of 8,000 kg per beneficiary. At the same time, farmers who have suffered losses of between 81% and 100% can receive 90 kg of seed per hectare, subject to the same ceiling of 8,000 kg per beneficiary.
FAO has recently approved support of 400 tons of wheat seed for farmers in our country affected by the drought this summer.
