Chisinau, Oct 16 /MOLDPRES/- Every vote counts. Whatever the option, turnout is essential to ensure a representative result. A vote can decide not only who will lead the country, but also whether we will continue our European integration process at an accelerated pace. Government spokesman Daniel Voda made the statements today. He urged eligible citizens to participate in the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum due on 20 October.
"Taking part in voting is both a moral duty and a gesture of civic responsibility. Every citizen who goes to the polls on October 20 is exercising his or her power to decide the direction in which the country will go. Don't miss your chance to contribute to Moldova's future. Vote with confidence on October 20," said Daniel Voda after today's cabinet meeting.
He said that "non-participation in the vote does not punish anyone, but it limits our ability to influence the direction that the Republic of Moldova will take". "With every vote, we express our will and contribute to building a more secure and prosperous future here at home, in the Republic of Moldova," he said.
He explained that polling stations will be open between 07:00 and 21:00 on Sunday, both at home and abroad. The first polling station to open will be in Tokyo, Japan, and the last polling station to open will be in Sacramento, the USA.
Each voter will receive two ballot papers: one for the presidential election and one for the referendum. Those who cannot be present at the polling stations for health or other reasons have the right to request a mobile ballot box under the terms of the law.
On October 20, Moldovan citizens entitled to vote are expected to go to the polls to participate in presidential elections and a republican constitutional referendum on amending the Constitution to facilitate accession to the European Union.
