Chișinău, Oct 18 /MOLDPRES/- The Official Journal published today the Preparation Plan for 2024–2025 heating season. The document outlines two scenarios meant to ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova in light of the risks associated with the natural gas supply interruption from Gazprom to the Transnistrian region.

One of the scenarios assumes that the Russian side will seek alternative routes for supplying gas to the Transnistrian region, considering Gazprom's contractual obligations to Moldovagaz. In this situation, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have stated that they will not obstruct the delivery.

According to the document, in the scenario where Gazprom halts natural gas deliveries, the authorities will gradually implement a series of measures to mitigate the impact of this decision. Even in the case of a complete cessation of gas supply, the Ministry of Energy estimates that there will be no gas deficit for consumers on the right bank of the Dniester and disconnection of consumers will not be necessary. If needed, Energocom will be able to ensure the supply of natural gas for protected and vulnerable consumer categories in the Transnistrian region through Tiraspoltransgaz, in exchange for payment covering acquisition costs.

To ensure electricity supply in the scenario where gas deliveries are interrupted, the Plan calls for increasing energy imports from Romania and other European Union countries.

The document also stipulates that stocks of natural gas, fuel oil and coal will be ensured, and alternative fuel stocks will be prepared by consumers and sugar factories. Additionally, the use of biomass and other renewable energy sources in agriculture and other sectors will be promoted to reduce dependence on traditional fuels.
