Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - The students born in India from the Medicine Faculty No 2 of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) have marked the Onam harvest festival.

The medicine students came with traditional clothes on them, danced, sang and organized entertaining activities. The event’s atmosphere was created out compositions made up of flower petals, the symbols of the festivals, made by USMF students.

The students present at the holiday said that the organization of such events re-brought them, imaginarily, home to traditions and rituals, through which they were charged with energy and good mood.

Onam is the greatest and most important festival from the Indian state of Kerala, held during ten days in August-September and marks the return home of the legendary king Mahabali. According to the legend, during his reign, Kerala witnessed the golden age. All people of the state were happy and prosperous and the king was quite respected by his subjects. Besides his qualities, Mahabali had a drawback – egoism. Therefore, at the festival, people show him how happy they are, through music and dance.
