Chisinau, Oct. 20 /MOLDPRES/- Over 207 thousand voters cast their ballots by 10 a.m. The figure represents over 7.5% of the total number of voters. At the same time, more than 72 thousand citizens participated in the constitutional republican referendum, which represents 2.66% of the number of voters included on the electoral lists. Central Electoral Commission (CEC) head Angelica Caraman made the statement today.
The CEC head noted that so far, the turnout is similar to the 2020 presidential elections. In the first round of the elections, by 10 a.m., about 200 thousand voters, or 7.1%, had voted then.
"The most active constituency is Dondușeni. More than 2,600 voters have voted so far. Over 7.5% of voters voted in Chisinau, in Balti municipality and in UTAG - more than 6.5%. About 18 thousand voters voted in polling stations organized abroad. Polling stations in the UK, Ireland and Portugal opened an hour ago. Polling stations in the United States and Canada are due to open in the coming hours. In the 30 polling stations set up for citizens entitled to vote in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester, more than 2,300 voters cast their ballots", said Angelica Caraman.
She also referred to the voting process in the Russian Federation. "In the online space we have information about the voting process at the two polling stations in Moscow. We point out that they were provided with the maximum number of ballots - 5,000 for each polling station. Main reason for organizing only two polling stations in the Russian Federation was the major security risk for voters and election employees", said Caraman.
The CEC was also informed about six cases of violations or incidents. "One case concerns an alleged act of voter bribery, one case of ballot-paper photography and four other incidents. All cases are being examined by the General Inspectorate of Police," said Caraman.
Elections for head of state and a republican constitutional referendum on the country's accession to the European Union are taking place in Moldova today.
Voting started at 07.00 and will end at 21.00. Citizens are expected to vote at 2,219 polling stations, of which 1,988 are open in Moldova, including 30 stations for residents of the left bank of the Dniester. Another 231 polling stations are open in 37 countries for diaspora voters.
