Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Even a small victory is also a victory. Europe is not only a dream, but also a joint project and we will continue to consolidate Moldova’s place in Europe, to which we belong. The former foreign affairs minister, Nicu Popescu, has made statements to this effect, in the context of the results of the republican constitutional referendum.
Nicu Popescu said that those who lose accept result in a democracy. ‘’Both those who win and those who lose have responsibility to work together, in order not to deepen the divisions, but to edify a better future. Each side learns the lessons of this process. We thank everybody who voted! Europe is not only a dream, but also a joint project and we will continue to consolidate Moldova’s place in Europe, to which we belong,’’ Nicu Popescu said.
The foreign affairs minister said that Sweden had jointed EU in 1994 with 52 per cent of the votes for and the United Kingdom left the Union in 2016 with the same percent. ‘’The small majorities modelled the destiny of these nations. At present, Sweden is a strong member of the European Union and the United Kingdom observed the will of its citizens,’’ Nicu Popescu said.
Following the processing of 99.50 of the official reports, data shows that 50.42 per cent (747, 675 votes) of the electors voted YES and 49.58 per cent (735,174 votes) said NO at the republican constitutional referendum.
