European Parliament President thanks Moldovans for courage

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has come up with a message following the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum on accession to the European Union, held in Moldova on 20 October.   

„Excellent, Moldova! Thank you for courage. Thank you, Maia Sandu. Your leadership and courage changed the course of the history. Europe is Moldova. Moldova is Europe. Our future will be written together,’’ the EU leader wrote on the X platform.    

Presidential elections and a republican constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union took place in Moldova on 20 October.

According to data by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), following the processing of 99.64 per cent of the official reports, about 42.37 per cent of the citizens voted for the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Maia Sandu, and another 26.02 per cent – for the candidate of the Party of Socialists, Alexandr Stoianoglo. Thus, the runoff election will be held in two weeks.

At the same time, the results of the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union shows that, after the counting of about 99.64 of the reports, 50.46 per cent of the citizens voted YES, while  49.54 percent voted NO.
