Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Maia Sandu, has urged the citizens to massively participate in the runoff of the presidential elections. ‘’We have responsibility to preserve our European vision. We can prevent the disaster only through vote; therefore, full mobilization is needed,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Maia Sandu thanked all citizens of Moldova and from the Diaspora for participation in the elections. ‘’All votes were equally important. It was proved that the phrase that each voter matter does not represent empty words. We saw that the Diaspora stays connected to the country, no matter the thousands of kilometers. Due to you, Moldova saved its democracy. We are a family. Together, we won the first battle from a tough struggle which we must win,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The PAS candidate for the office of head of state noted that the attempts of compromising from the election day, as well as the ones from the last two years represented an attempt against the democracy, an attempt against the aspiration to be part of the European family.

„The enemies of our people want a scared Moldova, for Moldovans to doubt their strength. The bandits wanted to make use of the democracy as a weakness. The Moldovans united and remained straight. Their target to buy hundreds of thousands of votes shows that we should look attentively at where mistakes were made and to learn. Unfortunately, the justice system did not do enough to combat the theft and corruption of votes. Now, the only way to defend our democracy is the vote. A full mobilization is needed,’’ Maia Sandu said.

She urged the citizens to a mobilization, in order to preserve the country’s European vision. ‘’For all these efforts not to be in vain, we are obliged to ensure a mobilization at the battle, especially of those who voted YES at the referendum. For this vote to matter, we must win in this massive attack against our European course. We have responsibility to preserve our European vision,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The PAS candidate addressed the citizens who had backed the pro-European candidates at the elections. ‘’I address those who voted for Octavian Ticu, Andrei Nastase and Ion Chicu. I respect your vote and I thank you for having expressed it. We have together the same goal. We live in Moldova and have the duty to preserve what we have. Our European vision must become a shield against the aggression. We should postpone the differences between politicians for the time after the elections. We should settle our discontents and blames when we know that the democracy and the European course are no longer in danger. I address the citizens who voted for Renato Usatii. We know that we have differences in opinions. Nevertheless, you, just as me, do not want the return of the bandits to power, who come to take everything, to make their own kingdom in our country. The power is in truth, obviously; the truth is that both me and you want to live in our country freely, to speak, to move, to be respected and nobody treat us like dirt,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„All citizens want to live in peace and good understanding in a prosperous society. I promise you that I will continue to work for this. Dear citizens, those who supported me, those who backed the European way, please help me in the next two weeks to speak with our neighbours, to explain, to go to villages and cities, to call and speak about the importance of the country’s European integration way, in order to mobilize to vote as many citizens as possible and Moldova to be victorious. They want us to close the eyes and be frightened. We will look directly to their faces and will lead the country to peace. Let us everybody go to vote, each of us can help Moldova,’’ Maia Sandu also said.

Presidential elections and a republican constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union took place in Moldova on 20 October.

It is about the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Maia Sandu,  who picked up 42.39 per cent of the votes given and the candidate of the party of Socialists, Alexandr Stoianoglo, for whom 26.01 per cent of the electors voted, following the processing  99.73 per cent of the reports.

The runoff election will be held two weeks after the date of the first round of the polls, with the date set by the Central Electoral Commission.
