Moldovan government rewards athletes who achieved outstanding performances at 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games

Chisinau, Oct 23 /MOLDPRES/- 12 athletes who have performed at the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer will be paid with cash prizes. Coaches, doctors and masseurs of the athletes will also receive remuneration. Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision today.
Anastasia Nichita and Ion Basoc, who won silver medals in women's wrestling and para judo, will receive 2.6 million lei. Denis Vieru and Adil Osmanov, bronze medal winners in judo, will receive 2 million lei each. Serghei Tarnovschi and Oleg Crețul, who ranked third in canoe and para judo will receive the same amount.
The holder of the fourth place in weightlifting, Marin Robu, will be paid 600 thousand lei. Daniela Cociu, Maria Olărașu, Larisa Marinenkova and Valentin Petic will receive 300 thousand lei. The athletes ranked seventh in canoe, para powerlifting and Greco-Roman wrestling. Gheorghe Spînu, who placed eighth in para athletics at the Paralympic Games, will receive a prize of 200 thousand lei.
Coaches will be paid the same as the athletes, while doctors and masseurs will receive between 20 and 260 thousand lei. In total, over 33 million lei will be allocated from the reserve fund.
"I would like to congratulate and thank the Olympians, their families, as well as the coaches, who feel proud of this achievement. I hope this is and will continue to be an encouragement for those who are currently in 7th or 8th place, but have the potential of moving up in the rankings," said Recean.
The Summer Olympic Games were held in Paris on 26 July -11 August, while the Paralympic Games took place from August 28 to September 9. Moldova won 6 medals for the first time this year.
