Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova switches to the winter time in the last week-end of October. Thus, on the night of 26 October to 27 October, the clocks will be set by one hour back; thus, 04:00 becomes 03:00.
The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, today said that the change of the hour had more benefits. ‘’We talk about the cut in the consumption of energy: the adjusting of the time can lead to savings of electric energy, as the need of artificial illumination will be reduced in the morning. Another advantage is the higher productivity: having more light in the morning, people feel more full of energy, more productive and this can improve the efficiency both at the working place and in the daily activities. Enhanced security: more natural light early in the morning can improve the road safety and the safety of pedestrians, reducing the risks of accidents. Synchronization with other countries: the adoption of the time can facilitate the communication and the international trade through ensuring a better synchronization of the programmes between the countries which use the same practice,’’ Daniel Voda noted after the cabinet meeting.
The change of the time takes place in Moldova twice a year: on the last Sunday of March, the country switches to the summer time and on the last Sunday of October, Moldova returns to the winter time.
More specialists in medicine and psychology say that the switch to the summer time can influence the state of health and the state of spirit of more people, especially of those suffering from chronic diseases. According to them, during several days determining the transition from the summer to the winter time, more rest and proper nourishment are recommended. The people sick with chronic diseases should be as attentive as possible with the permanent treatments they make and to endeavor not to make interruptions.
Moldova resorted to the switch to the winter time in 1979, in order to optimally use the light, so as to reduce the artificial illumination.
The switch from the summer to the winter time is made in 70 countries, with the observance of the difference of the meantime zone.
