Moldovan electoral body kicks off electoral campaign for runoff election

Chisinau, Oct 23 /MOLDPRES/-The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) informs that the two candidates who passed in the second round of the presidential elections can start campaigning.
The head of the CEC's Communication, Public Relations and Media Department, Rodica Sirbu, said that in the runoff election, the candidates are also prohibited to use administrative resources, including by launching or participating in the launching of infrastructure projects or purchases from the national public budget, use of equipment, means, public goods.
Electoral contestants may organize meetings with voters, and local public administration authorities are obliged to ensure the possibility of such meetings under equal terms and conditions.
Election campaigning will be allowed only until November 1.
The CEC announced that following the presidential elections of October 20, 2024, none of the candidates for President of the Republic of Moldova did not receive at least half of the votes. Thus, in accordance with the legal provisions, the runoff election was set for November 3, 2024 for the first two candidates: Maia Sandu, nominated by the Action and Solidarity Party and Alexandr Stoianoglo, nominated by the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova.
