Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - Rector of the Moldovan State University (USM) Igor Sarov today launched his volume titled, „Basarabia în istoriografia rusă (1812-1862)”, (Bessarabia in the Russian historiography (1812-1862) at the University of Oradea (Romania), in a distinguished academic atmosphere. The event attracted a numerous audience, including historians, students and teachers, according to the website www.media.uoradea.ro.
At the launch event, Igor Sarov said that the idea to write this volume had appeared back in 1990s, against the background of a comprehensive research on Russia’s intervention in Bessarabia. ‘’Bessarabia is presently also under the cannons of the Russian propaganda. A red wire of the propaganda says that the name of Bessarabia comes from the tribe of Beshs, a Slav tribe which lived on the Thracian-Dacian territories back in the sixth-fifth centuries B.C.'' Professor Igor Sarov also said that, during its history, Romania had witnessed moments of glory, when at least two conditions were met: ‘’The international context was friendly and Russia was weakened,’’ Sarov said.
Rector of the Oradea University Constantin Bungău welcomed the presence of the USM rector and thanked him for the long-lasting cooperation between the two education institutions. ‘’The very good relation between our universities is, in fact, a linking bridge between Moldova and Romania. I invite all of you from here to make something, in order to give solidity to this bridge,’’ Constantin Bungău said.
The volume launched by Igor Sarov is fruit of over 30 years of documenting in archives from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Odessa.
In the end of the event, the rector of the Moldovan State University gave signatures and discussed with Bessarabian students studying at the Oradea University.
