BNM governor in Washington

Chisinau, Oct 27 /MOLDPRES/- Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Anca Dragu on a visit to Washington reaffirmed that accession to the European Union is a strategic priority for Moldova, and BNM is devoting its resources to harmonize its regulatory framework with European standards.

Statements were made by Anca Dragu during the Regional Economic Outlook (REO) - an event dedicated to the economic outlook and common challenges of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, organized on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Washington, USA.

"The Republic of Moldova continues on its path towards an open and inclusive economy, promoting reforms to attract investment and support innovation in the financial sector," the head said.

The BNM Governor reiterated Moldova's objectives to improve the financial and economic framework, support financial inclusion and strengthen the country's position in the European integration process. 

In the context of economic changes and global risks, Dragu emphasized the need for prudent economic policy and a resilient financial structure. "Moldova remains committed to implementing reforms to ensure financial stability and integration into a modern and competitive European economy. We are taking an active role in transforming Moldova's economy and strengthening the financial sector to create a prosperous future for all citizens," the governor said.

The Regional Economic Outlook discussions focused on the importance of a joint regional effort to improve economic dynamics and create an integrated single market for goods, services and capital. Anca Dragu said "joint initiatives are essential to boost investment and innovation in Central and Eastern Europe," stressing the need to tackle economic challenges through strengthened regional collaboration.

During the visit to Washington, the Moldovan delegation, led by Governor Anca Dragu and Finance Minister Victoria Belous participated in a series of high-level meetings. According to a press release issued by the BNM, these meetings, held with IMF and World Bank officials, focused on key issues for Moldova's economic development, such as support for financial sector reform, harmonization of the legislative framework with the European one, and technical assistance to strengthen financial stability.
