Chisinau, Oct 28 /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu said today that until the spring of 2024, the voter corruption and other actions organized by the former party of Ilan Shor were financed with cash, and the new financing scheme, through the Russian bank PSB, was allegedly developed by Russian special services.
He said that the scheme is part of the hybrid war and urged citizens, and state institutions to be vigilant. He recalled that corruption is punishable, and people who self-report or cooperate with the investigation will be exempt from punishment.
He said that the National Investigation Inspectorate has recently carried out more than 800 searches. The law enforcers have also charged more than 35 people.
Muntean said that several cases initiated on behalf of former Shor Party members are being delayed in court and came with an appeal to his employees.
"I come with an appeal to all prosecutors, officers and lawyers. We are facing an unprecedented challenge. Criminal actions are implemented by organizations and groups that are coordinated and financed from outside the country. They use all the criminal tools of hybrid warfare, regardless of material and financial resources. We know that it is not only our dignity that is at stake, but also our existence as a state. I am convinced that we will overcome these unprecedented challenges, but it will be necessary to engage in a more frank and open dialog on all aspects of legislative and criminal procedural changes", he said.
