Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the Moldovan president’s office, current President Maia Sandu has invited her counter-candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo to the electoral debates, which takes place at the Moldova 1 TV station starting from 19:00.

In a video addressing posted on social networks, Maia Sandu says that it is about the honesty and dignity of each candidate to speak before the electors.

„Mr. Stoianoglo, thank you for the recent debates. I appreciate much that you spoke in the Romanian language. Thank you for these debates, as both of us promised to speak to the citizens about our plans on the country. You asked for debates too; this is a tense moment not only for our teams, but also for the citizens. The people deserve to see us honest and open, impartial. It is about the honesty and dignity of each of us. But this is also about our responsibility before the citizens. Therefore, in the spirit of the good understanding, I invite you to come to debates at Moldova 1,’’ Maia Sandu said in the Russian language.

Subsequently, the candidate for the president’s position continued her message in the Romanian language, urging the people to unity, noting that any division, according to criteria of language, ethnic group, geography, ‘’does evil to everybody.’’

„Dear citizens,
Our country presently experiences days of maximal importance. But also a quite tense period. The tension in the society, natural for any elections, grew to maximal levels because of the fraud which happened in the first round of the elections. This angered and alerted all of us.

It is natural for us to be angry, but let us not forget that all of us, no matter our political or geopolitical likings, want to be in safety, to further live in peace here at home. For us to protect our calm and peace, to protect our sovereign vote, we must stay united. I ask you to understand that any division, according to criteria of language, ethnic group, geography, does evil to everybody. This makes us weak before the risks to our country. But the real danger for our country is greater than these artificial quarrels. I address the people of all ethnic groups from our country: I respected all of you during these four years; I took care of the safety of all citizens and I will do like this in continuation. We should stay united, in order to protect our country and future,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo will fight in the runoff of the presidential elections on 3 November.
