Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - Maia Sandu urges the irresolute voters, as well as the ones who gave their votes for candidate Renato Usatii to back the democracy and Moldova’s European integration on 3 November. ‘’Now, the choice is between the return of the thieves and not only, but also to put an end to the European integration,’’ the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the Moldovan president’s office, Maia Sandu, said on the stage of debates at the Moldova 1 public TV station today.

Maia Sandu recognizes that there are disappointed voters and, at the same time, urges the electors to choose the democracy and the European integration on 3 November.

„The fact that we are disappointed, and I recognize that there are disappointed people, does not mean that we should set fire to the country and give the country in the thieves’ hands. We fought with difficulty to chase away the thieves from power. Just remember how difficult this was for us, how much effort it took us to get rid of them. Yes, it is a big problem that they are not imprisoned, but at least they are not at rule now; do not hold public offices, in order to share the money with each other, just as they were doing this so many years. This is argument for everybody, no matter whether they like me or not. At the parliamentary elections, they will be able to vote for the party they like, but now the choice is between letting the thieves to return and not only, but also to put an end to the European integration. This is the option promoted by my counter-candidate, even if he speaks here about all kinds of things, but there is no substance behind. So, we must defend our democracy as well. Yes, we must work even more inclusively from now on; we must succeed in carrying out the reforms, which are to consolidate our democracy and the security of our state as quickly as possible,’’ Maia Sandu said.

At the same time, the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party also had a message for the voters of Renato Usatii, who picked up 14 per cent of the votes in the first round of the presidential elections from 20 October.

„I do not think that the electorate of Renato Usatii wants the thieves to return to power. Yes, I understand that they are angry, because we did not do more for them to be sanctioned and we wanted the judges and prosecutors to do their job well. The judges and prosecutors were speaking about the independence of justice. Yes, we observe the independence of justice, but this does not mean the independence of corrupt people, who, look, endanger the state’s security and I am sure that the people who voted for Renato Usatii and back him do not want the thieves to come back to power, as all of us know what this means and therefore, all of us must go to vote and defend the country,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The second electoral debate before the runoff presidential election took place today. Only Maia Sandu came to the stage of the debates at the Moldova 1 public TV station. Her counter-candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo did not accept the invitation, moderator Radu Osipov said.

The runoff of the presidential elections will be held in Moldova on 3 November. The current Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, who grabbed 42.49 per cent of the votes or 656,852 suffrages in the first round of the polls and the Socialists’ candidate, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who picked up 25.95 per cent of the votes or 401,215 ballots, will fight in the runoff election.
