Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - The citizens who vote by correspondence at the runoff of the presidential elections are to send the envelope with the electoral materials till 31 October.
Contracted by MOLDPRES, the head of the communication, public relations and mass media department of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Rodica Sirbu, said that the institution had sent 1,809 ballot papers for the vote by correspondence.
„The person is to mark a single option in the ballot paper; this means that he/she votes for a single candidate for the office of president. At the same time, the envelope will contain also the voter’s declaration signed on abstaining from multiple voting and keeping the secret of vote,’’ Rodica Sirbu noted.
The period of voting by correspondence for the runoff election starts with the establishment by CEC of the date for the organization of the runoff of the presidential polls. ‘’This period ends with the reception by the electoral body of the envelopes with ballot papers at 18:00 at the latest, local time of the host country, on Thursday, before the election day, i.e. 31 October this year,’’ Rodica Sirbu said.
A number of 1,344 envelopes out of those 1,809 ones sent to the electors, who asked to vote by correspondence, were received for the ballot from 20 October.
At this autumn’s polls, the vote by correspondence is implemented for the first time ever in six countries: USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland.
