Chisinau, Oct 31 /MOLDPRES/- Citizens who cast their vote by post in the runoff election must send the envelope with electoral materials by 31 October.
The first findings of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) show the effectiveness of postal voting as a means of facilitating citizens' participation in the vote. After these elections, certain aspects will be fine-tuned in order to make it possible to apply it on a large scale for the next elections.
The head of the CEC's Communication, Public Relations and Media Department, Rodica Sirbu, said that the institution has sent 1,809 ballots for postal voting.
The period of postal voting for the runoff election starts once the CEC sets the date for the organization of the runoff.
For the October 20 polls, 1,344 envelopes were received out of the 1,809 envelopes sent to voters who requested to vote by post.
In this fall's elections, postal voting is being implemented for the first time in six countries: the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland.
