Moldovan electoral body accredits last observers for monitoring of runoff election

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today accredited 256 observers for the monitoring of the runoff of the presidential elections on behalf of the MIRAD public association.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the CEC’s communication, public relations and mass media department, Rodica Sirbu, said that the people accredited as observers would carry out their activity in the conditions of the national legislation.
„On the election day, the observers till monitor the voting procedure, the counting of ballot papers and the tabulation of the results. The people accredited as observers in the first round of the polls can carry out their work at the runoff election as well,’’ Rodica Sirbu noted.
On the period of the runoff of the presidential elections, CEC accredited another 107 observers.
CEC accredited 2,424 national and international observers for the monitoring of the presidential elections in all.
The runoff election will take place in Moldova on 3 November. Current president Maia Sandu, who won 42.49%, 656,852 votes in the first round, and Socialist candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo, who won 25.95%, 401,215 votes, will fight for the post of head of state.
