Silence day on 2 November, ahead of runoff election in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - There is silence day in Moldova today, before the runoff of the presidential elections, held on 3 November. 2024. Under the Electoral Code, the electoral agitation is strictly banned on 2 and 3 November.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) warns that, on these two days, the carrying out and coverage of activities or materials with electoral content is not allowed.
CEC president Angelica Caraman said that the electoral agitation was strictly forbidden on the election day and on the day before.
„The local public administration and the advertising spreaders are obliged to remove the electoral advertising materials. The ban is not applied to the information already placed in the Internet. On this period, the appearance of candidates in the elections at TV or radio programmes is not allowed too,’’ Angelica Caraman also said.
Also, the electoral contenders cannot make transfers to and from the account titled, Electoral Fund.
Under the Contravention Code, the continuation of the electoral agitation on the aforementioned days by mass media, electoral contenders and citizens represents an administrative contravention and is sanctioned with fine worth from 2,000 to 3,000 lei, imposed to private person and with fine worth from 5,000 to 7,500 lei, imposed to legal entity.
