Moldova to cooperate with Denmark, Germany in defence sector

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - The government today ruled to start negotiations and to approve the signing of an Agreement concerning the German government’s Programme on Assistance with Equipment for the Foreign Armed Forces and the detaching of a Consultative Group of the Bundeswehr for Moldova.
The document sees the providing of services, delivery of non-lethal articles, undertaking of measures for the development of infrastructure, such as the related education, advising and training. At the same time, the delivery of weapons and ammunitions, as well as of articles for their fabrication will be ruled out.
„The draft agreement’s object of regulation is the establishment of principles of the assistance programme, as well as of the general conditions as to the detaching and work of the consultancy group in Moldova. Under the Article 3 of the agreement, the assistance programme sees the providing of services, the delivery of non-lethal articles, undertaking of measures for the development of infrastructure, as well as the related education, advising and training. The point 4 of the same article provides for the exclusion of the delivery of weapons and ammunitions, as well as of articles for their fabrication. According to the Agreement, the consultative group detached to Moldova will ensure the management of carrying out of the projects identified within the aforementioned Assistance Programme. Thus, through this Agreement, the current cooperation between the defence ministries of the two countries will be extended through the consolidation and boosting of the partnership relations,’’ the state secretary at the Defence Ministry, Sergiu Plop, said at the cabinet meeting.
Also today, the government approved the decision on the starting of negotiation and approval of the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the Defence Ministries of Moldova and Denmark on cooperation in the defence sector.
The draft provides for the cooperation between the two defence institutions in the field of military and security policy, consolidation of the capacities, training, democratic control over the armed forces, cooperation with international organizations and integration into the European Union.
