Moldova to receive grant worth 4.34 million euros for waste management

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Moldova with a grant worth 4.34 million euros for the financing of investment projects aimed at developing the infrastructure in the field of solid waste management. The government today approved a draft law for the ratification of an agreement on grant to this end.
The money will be used for the implementation of projects essential for the development of the infrastructure of solid waste’s management and will be focused on the Waste Management Region 1 (RMD 1), which includes the districts of Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, as well as Vulcanesti, Ceadar-Lunga and Comrat din the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia.
At the cabinet meeting, Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu said the grant would finance the construction of a centre of recycling and ecological management, of a sorting and composting station in the Cahul city. Also, three transfer stations will be built in the cities of Comrat, Taraclia and the Cania commune, Cantemir district. They will be endowed with equipment needed for the treatment and removal of waste from the waste management region 1.
„This project is a national far-reaching one and regards the creation of an integrated system of ecological management, considerably reducing the impact on the environment and contributing to the improvement of the citizens’ living standards, thus developing a cleaner and sounder environment,’’ Sergiu Lazarencu also said.
„The water, sewerage, roads and waste management are at the basis of the development of each settlement,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed after the draft’s approval.
The agreement on grant was signed in Chisinau on 17 September 2024, at the annual meeting of the Moldova Partnership Platform.
