Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), held in Budapest, Hungary. The head of state said that ‘’Moldova stays firm with Ukraine and we will continue to work for the reestablishment of peace and security in Europe.’’
„In Budapest, I met President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with whom I discussed Ukraine’s resistance before the Russian invasion and about our common way to the European Union. Moldova stays firmly with Ukraine. We will continue to work for the reestablishment of peace and security in Europe,’’ Maia Sandu said.
For his part, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Moldova stayed firmly with his country. Also, the officials coordinated efforts on the way to EU.
„At the summit of the European Political Community, I met President of Moldova Maia Sandu and I congratulated her on the victory gained at the presidential elections. We discussed the common security challenges triggered by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as its efforts to counteract the Russian misinformation. We also coordinated the efforts on the path to EU,’’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
„The most important thing is that the road of our countries to the European Union is to provide our people more opportunities, social stability and economic security. A united Europe makes the nations stronger. Together, we are stronger before the common challenges and together, we must defend our freedom and the common European future,’’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said.
This is the first visit paid abroad, following Maia Sandu’s reelection as president of Moldova. At the event, President Maia Sandu met European leaders, heads of state and government, to discuss the economic development of Moldova, the regional peace and security and the European integration process.
The European Political Community is a forum which brings together the European Union member countries and the ones from outside the EU area, in order to discuss the challenges faced by the continent. The inaugural EPC summit took place in Prague in October 2022 and the second issue was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
