Moldova to learn from France's farming experience

Chisinau, Nov 8 /MOLDPRES/- A Moldovan delegation paid a study visit to France on November 4-8 to exchange experience and learn best practices in irrigation infrastructure management and water resources governance in order to support modern and sustainable agriculture in our country. It provided opportunities to learn and adapt advanced European models of water management and irrigation infrastructure, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).
The visit's agenda included a meeting with specialists of BRL Inginerie, a company renowned for its expertise in hydro-improvement projects. The Moldovan delegation representatives discussed the innovative methods used in the management and operation of hydro-technical infrastructure in the region, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the integrity of irrigation systems (ICS) and continuous monitoring of their functionality. At the same time, the process of prioritization of rehabilitation projects and the pricing of irrigation water, which are essential for an efficient and affordable irrigation system for farmers, were also discussed.
The visit to the Water Agency also gave the Moldovan delegation an insight into how water is managed in French agriculture. The French officials explained the regulatory framework and the process for obtaining authorizations for water use in irrigation, underlining the importance of rigorous governance to support sustainable agricultural development. They also presented models of collaboration between regional authorities and private operators, such as infrastructure concessions to specialized entities.
Another highlight of the visit was the meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture, who detailed the ways in which they provide advice to Irrigation Water Users Associations and support the development of irrigation projects.
On November 4-8, a delegation consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Land Improvement Agency and the Union of Irrigation Water Users' Associations was on a study visit to Nîmes and Montpellier, France.
