Scientists from Moldova, Romania to make researches within joint programme of grants

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) of Moldova and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania have informed about the finishing of the stage of submission of proposals of projects within a competition titled, Bilateral complex projects with Moldova. As many as 290 proposals of projects were registered till 30 October 2024, when the application term ended.  

According to MEC, the large number of proposals of projects submitted showed the increased interest of researches and research institutions in this initiative of bilateral cooperation.  

„This project is an emblematic one for the research sector. At the Education and Research Ministry, we invest time and resources, so that this sector grows and develops; we work out policies which are to encourage as many as possible young people in the field of research and innovation. We modernized the Code of Science in line with the European standards; we consolidated the research centres, bringing them closer to students; we concentrated the research resources in universities. An ambitious national plan has been recently approved, which connects the business with research and innovation – SMART Moldova national Programme on smart specialization for the 2024-2027 years,’’ Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said.     

Moldova and Romania launched a joint programme of grants for scientific research, at an international forum held in last September, which brought together over 180 researchers from both banks of the Prut river. Through backing joint scientific projects, the programme will contribute to the achievement of the European goals of innovation and progress, with emphasis on essential fields, such as health, environment, digitalization and sustainable energy.

Also, it is about the consolidation of the international partnerships, which are to contribute to the creation of strong research consortiums in strategic sectors, as well as of access to the European scientific excellence. The programmes of grants regards the support of innovating projects which are to be competitive at the European level, supporting the participation of researchers from Romania and Moldova in top initiatives from the European Research Area.    

The project will be co-financed by the governments of the two states and projects from more fields are to benefit from grants: digitalization, industry and space; climate, energy and mobility; food, bio-economy, natural resources, biodiversity, agriculture and environment; health; culture, creativity and inclusive society; civil security for society. The maximal duration of a project is of 24 months.
