Speeding up of process of Moldova's accession to EU discussed at Foreign Affairs Ministry

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan diplomacy head, Mihai Popsoi, today had a meeting with the ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the Council of the European Union, in charge of the EU’s common foreign and security policy. The discussions were focused on the importance of speeding up the process of accession to the European Union.
In his speech, the Moldovan foreign affairs minister referred to the firmer anchoring of Moldova in the area of the European states, including as a result of the successful finishing of the recent electoral cycle, as well as to the importance of the European support for enhancing the resilience of Moldova against the threats from abroad. ‘’We have achieved a success of historical importance at the constitutional referendum and at the presidential elections, despite the wide-scale interferences against the democracy and the electoral process, directed from abroad and which were manifested through illicit financing of political actors, misinformation campaigns, cyber attacks, purchasing of votes and polarization,’’ Popsoi said.
Mihai Popsoi also said that it was in the interest of everybody for Moldova to as quickly as possible advance on the way of reforms for accession to the European Union. ‘’Taking into account the regional situation and parameters imposed to the Moldovan democracy by Russia and the domestic crime rings, it is of crucial importance and in the interest of everybody for us to as much and quickly as possible advance on the way of reforms for accession to the European Union,’’ Popsoi also said.
The minister specified that, for Moldova, which will continue to be threatened during the months before the parliamentary elections, due next year, the EU’s political, financial and practical support would be essential.
The foreign affairs minister thanked for the firm support, solidarity and commitment of EU for the way of Moldova’s accession to EU, including for the EU Partnership Mission, which enhances the domestic resilience and the combating of the misinformation in Moldova.
