Moldova attends UN Climate Change Conference (COP29)

Chisinau, Nov. 12 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova's Energy Ministry delegation, led by Minister Victor Parlicov is participating in UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku on November 11-22. During the event, which brings together representatives from 197 countries, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria on cooperation in the security of energy supply will be signed. Victor Parlicov will also hold bilateral meetings, including with his Azerbaijani counterpart.

This year's COP meeting focuses on green finance and the creation of a new fund, financed by fossil fuel producers, companies and countries, to benefit countries affected by climate change. The event aims to accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement, with a focus on raising global ambitions, ensuring climate justice and promoting sustainable development.

At COP29, Minister Victor Parlicov will hold bilateral meetings, including with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov Ogtay. Discussions will explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector with Moldova's regional partners.

A centerpiece of the visit is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria on cooperation in the security of energy supply. The partnership will support the stability of energy supply of both countries and the development of common energy security solutions in the region.

Parlicov will also represent our country on a panel dedicated to green economy and climate action for resilient growth. The official will address the challenges and measures needed for Moldova's transition to sustainability in the context of climate change.

At the same time, Secretary of State Carolina Novac will participate in panels and meetings, where she will discuss topics related to the importance of the green transition for effective climate action, trade policies and cross-border mechanisms needed for a low-carbon economy, scaling up investments in energy efficiency and renewables in Europe and Central Asia, and solutions to increase energy efficiency in the building sector.

COP29 annually brings together heads of state, political leaders, young people, climate experts and civil society representatives to address the urgent challenges of climate change.
