Chisinau, Nov 14 /MOLDPRES/- All tires sold in the Republic of Moldova will be labeled so that drivers can find on the label information about the tire class (C1, C2 or C3), the fuel efficiency icon indicating the performance class, as well as the wet grip icon. The new rules were published in the Official Journal today.
The regulation stipulates that the tire label will contain a QR code for quick access to the European database, the name or trademark of the supplier, the tire type identifier, the tire size specifications, the load capacity index and the speed category symbol according to UN standards.
Studies show that car tires have a certain impact on fuel consumption. So with the new rules in place, every seller will have to inform the consumer and mark tires in terms of their impact on fuel consumption.
The authorities estimate that the measures will reduce total fuel consumption by about 1%, equivalent to an annual reduction of 88 million tons of CO2.
The technical regulation will enter into force 11 months after its publication in the Official Journal, giving distributors and suppliers enough time to comply with the new requirements. Existing stocks of tires will be exempt from the rules for 12 months.
