Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/ - Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu and representatives of the Road Police today distributed small oak trees to drivers. The action was held in the centre of Chisinau, in the context of the preparations for the Forest’s Generation afforestation campaign.
The afforestation campaign is set to mobilize people from all over Moldova to plant trees. In all, over 26 million small trees will be planted this autumn. At the same time, this year, over 7,300 hectares of forest will be planted. As many as 3,300 hectares were planted in the last spring and another 4,000 hectares will be planted in the autumn of 2024.
The plantings will start on 16 November. On this day, all cabinet members will go to the Malaiesti settlement, central Orhei district, to plant 40 hectares of wood. Also, over 440 locations for planting at 160 mayoralties will be available all over the country, so that citizens from different regions of Moldova are able to participate in the afforestation.
„This autumn, we will plant more than 26 million small trees. It is about oak trees, ash trees, acacias and maple trees. They were grown in nurseries of the Moldsilva Forestry Agency on an area of over 4,000 hectares. Each tree planted will be a symbol of our responsibility for the nature and the country’s future. We have a unique chance to change the country’s landscape, to edify a greener future and bequeath a model of care for the environment to the next generations,’’ Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu said.
The citizens willing to participate in plantings can do this on 16 November, as well as on the days after. They can choose the grounds nearby the region where they live. More information and details on the way of registration for participation can be found on the official website of the Moldsilva Agency – Participate in Plantings in Autumn of 2024.
Presently, the afforested area of Moldova occupies 11 per cent of the country territory, while the degree of afforestation in EU is of 37.7 per cent.
