Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - A Traffic Monitoring Centre today was inaugurated in the Chisinau municipality. The system is conceived for the efficient management of the traffic and road transport. The centre will provide data information in real time, in order to ease the road traffic, enhance the security of the movement and identify solutions to optimize the transport system.
The creation and endowment of the Traffic Monitoring Centre (CMT) is part of the MOVE IT like Lublin project, financed by EU and implemented based on a partnership between the Chisinau city hall and the city hall of the Lublin city, Poland.
Attending the event was EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks. The official said that he was quite happy that, due to the European Union’s support, the Traffic Monitoring Centre was inaugurated in Chisinau today.
„The urban traffic is a visiting card of a city – an indicator of the organization, efficiency and care for the residents. This centre will surely change the way the flow in the Moldovan capital is managed and regulated. The urban mobility is essential for enhancing cities’ sustainability. We should find a source of inspiration in the European cities, where the urban planning focused on people turned the urban centres into flourishing cultural centres,’’ Jānis Mažeiks.
„For us, maters a lot for the Chisinau municipality to become the example of city where all things can be found at 15 minutes from home and the urban infrastructure should allow this. We are quite open to take over the good examples from the European cities and implement them in Chisinau. We are proud that we can together change the things, as the great things are made only together,’’ the Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban said.
For his part, Ambassador of Poland to Moldova Tomasz Kobzdej said that this project had an extremely important role in the social and economic transition through which Moldova was going at present.
„I am delighted to see that this partnership between Lublin and Chisinau is one with real results. You know that we spend already a big part of our life in the public or personal transport; therefore, I am extremely happy to see that the Lublin city can share its experience with other cities,’’ Tomasz Kobzdej also said.
Due to this Centre, the efficiency, safety and general performance of the transport system from Chisinau will be improved, which will lead to a better experience both for the residents and for those who visit the city.
The project, MOVE IT like Lublin – initiative of sustainable development of the public transport from the Chisinau city, is financed by the European Union and has been implemented based on a partnership between the Chisinau city hall and the city hall of the Lublin city starting from 2021. The project’s overall budget is of 3,500,000 euros, of which 3,325,000 euros is provided as grant by EU and 175,000 euros represent the contribution of the Chisinau city hall.
