Judges, prosecutors to get compensation for transportation or renting accommodation

Chisinau, Nov 20 /MOLDPRES/- Government is extending social benefits for judges and prosecutors. They will be compensated for transportation expenses or renting accommodation, if they work in localities other than those where they live, the government's communication department has reported.

Under the draft law, approved today by the Cabinet of Ministers, the compensation will be offered if the distance between the locality where the person works and the locality where he or she is domiciled is more than 20 km. At the same time, in the case of rented accommodation, the amount indicated in the rental contract will be compensated and the monthly amount of compensation will not exceed 4,500 lei.

If the person is eligible for both types of compensation, only one of them may be paid. The calculation formula will be set by a government decision, which is being drafted.

The measure is intended to encourage candidates for the posts of prosecutors and judges to accept appointment outside Chisinau. This will enhance the institutional capacities of the courts and prosecutor's offices, as well as create premises for improving the quality of justice.

There are currently 189 persons in the category of potential beneficiaries of compensation for transportation or rented accommodation.
