Moldovan president participates in international conference for prevention, combating violence against women

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in an international conference for the prevention and combating of violence against women. At the event, the head of state referred to how important was to develop together a society without violence, the presidential press service has reported.  

„All of us work to build a better country for people, with more justice, with modern roads, schools and hospitals. A better country means a society without violence,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

The head of state stressed that, when the society was united, it managed. ‘’My urge is not to tolerate or overlook the cases of violence, to call to help and to provide help each time when needed. The violence against women is a problem for which there are no simple solutions; therefore, I appreciate the work of those who daily help the victims find again their strength and rebuild their lives,’’ President Maia Sandu said. The head of state also said that these professionals, either they are advisers, psychologists, social employees, local authorities, cultural mediators or policemen, had an essential role in backing women and contributed to the edification of a more empathic society. ‘’I believe in the power of the example and I ask you to promote positive examples, which are to inspire,’’ the Moldovan president noted.      

The head of state also said that she admired and respected the women who had managed to break off the violence circle, noting that much power and courage was needed for a person to be able to face not only the abuses, but sometimes even the community he/she belongs to, in order to be able to regain the right to live in untroubled state and safety.   

„We should continue working together, so that the children are brought up in safety and happiness in Moldova – girls and boys, who when they are grown up, will know how to build relations based on mutual respect, appreciation and love,’’ the Moldovan president added.
