Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ - The pupils of the Onisifor Ghibu Theoretical Lyceum from Orhei have designed a modern multifunctional sports field for activities in open air – football, basket-ball, volley-ball and athleticism. The project, developed through inter-disciplinary approach STEEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Mathematics), proved the way the theoretical knowledge from school disciplines can be applied for the settlement of real problems.

The pupils were guided by teachers trained within the project, promotion of quality education and opportunities of learning during all life for everybody, implemented by the entities of the United Nations Organization – UN Development Project and UN Children’s Fund, with the European Union’s support.

Following a survey conducted on the spot, the pupils identified the problem of lack of a functional sports field. The present field is deteriorated and does not provide the conditions needed for the sports activities. Meeting these needs, young people created physical models and 3D versions of a multifunctional field, which might be arranged in the next years. The project was unveiled at an event organized at the lyceum.

The Onisifor Ghibu Theoretical Lyceum is part of the Model Schools Network – an initiative by the Education and Research Ministry, which is set to transform by one school from each district into an institution of reference.

The Model Schools Network benefits from the support of the World Bank, European Union, UNDP, UNICEF, U.S. Agency for International Development, the government of Poland, Norway, international organizations and private companies.
