Moldovan MPs have discussions with British officials in London

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - A group of Moldovan MPs have recently paid a working visit to the United Kingdom, where they met British officials. The discussions were focused on the Moldova-UK cooperation in more key sectors. Thus, the members of the Moldovan official delegation pointed out ‘’an unprecedented openness and support.’’
The delegation was made up of lawmakers: head of the commission for economy, budget and finances, Radu Marian, the head of the group of friendship with the United Kingdom, Tatiana Cunetchi, the head of the Commission for control of public money, lawmaker Marcela Nistor.
In London, the MPs had meetings with more members of the House of Lords, British state ministers and officials. ‘’We enjoy an unprecedented openness and support and here it is extremely important that we turn them to account in the interest of our citizens. It was extremely important for us to meet as many as possible lawmakers and lords and explain them the situation in Moldova, to tell them about the Kremlin’s unprecedented attempts to disturb the elections, about our plans for future and about how the United Kingdom can help us, as the country is one of the world leaders in the security sector and defence of the democracy,’’ the head of the delegation, MP Radu Marian said.
The visit’s agenda included meetings with the heads of the parliamentary committee on foreign relations, Emily Thornberry, the president of the parliamentary committee on defence, Tan Dhesi, the president of the faction of the ruling Labour Party, Jessica Morden, a conservative lawmaker, Wendy Morton, who assumed the position of shadow minister for Europe, the president of the committee on mass media and culture, Caroline Dinen, the president of the committee on international relations and defence of the House of Lords, Lord De Mauley, the president of the committee on domestic affairs, Karen Bradley, Minister of State at the Defence Minister Lord Coaker, as well as many other MPs and officials of the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry.
The discussions were focused on the cooperation between Moldova and the United Kingdom in more key fields. The Moldovan lawmakers highlighted the support provided by the British authorities, referring to the consolidation of the resilience in the new regional security context, combating the misinformation, strengthening of the mass media, including one BBC programme on the modernization of the public television, enhancing of the cyber security and the consolidation of the national institutions.
„The support of the United Kingdom in the cyber consolidation was crucial, for us to be able to resist extremely aggressive attacks on behalf of Russia from last October and November to our electronic systems which are in charge of the good holding of the elections. The United Kingdom allocated tens of millions of euros in the last years to help Moldova and it is extremely important that this assistance continues and is extended,’’ lawmaker Radu Marian said.
Traditionally, the MPs met a group of Moldovans who live in London. The lawmakers discussed with representatives of the Diaspora on up-to-date subjects from Moldova and the efforts made by the authorities in the country’s development and the advancement of the European integration way.
