Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova (SHS) and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), with the support of Sweden’s government, launched a partnership in Chisinau today. The partnership was described as ‘’revolutionary for a safer future,’’ being about a five-year innovating programme.

The programme’s goal is to enhance Moldova’s capacities to anticipate, monitor and manage the risks of the extreme weather, such as the floods and droughts – phenomena which become more and more frequent because of the climate changes.

Through advanced technologies, specialized trainings and modernized infrastructure, SHS will provide more accurate weather forecasts and early warnings, thus protecting the communities and the economy of Moldova from the devastating effects of the extreme weather.

„The consolidation of Moldova’s hydro-meteorological capacities is essential for a safer and more sustainable future for all citizens,’’ Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Katarina Fried said.

The State Hydrometeorological Service says that this project is more than just an investment in infrastructure – it is a courageous step towards the climate resilience and safety. ‘’Together, we can cope with the challenges brought by the climate changes,’’ SHS added.
