Chisinau, Nov 29 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova is constantly striving to bring the road transport sector in line with the European Union acquis, in accordance with the commitments undertaken in the process of European integration. In this regard, a high-level international workshop on driving time and rest periods, tachograph and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) was held in Chisinau on November 28-29.
The event is organized by the European Commission through the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Program (TAIEX), as a result of the request submitted by the National Agency for Road Transport (ANTA) under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, to benefit from top European expertise.
The workshop brought together over 60 participants to address topics such as: driving and rest time regulations aimed at protecting road safety and drivers' rights; the use and control of smart tachographs as key tools for fraud prevention and efficient monitoring of transport activities; the integration of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to optimize traffic management and increase sustainability.
The Republic of Moldova joined the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles engaged in International Road Transport of 01.07.1970 in 1993, strengthening its commitment to safe international road transport. The Agency also benefited from the support of Lithuania through the project "Safe and Interoperable Transport System in Moldova" and exchanged best practices with partners in Poland and Romania. The experience of Spain, shared during these two days, will bring new solutions that can be applied to road transport in our country.
TAIEX is the technical assistance and information exchange instrument of the European Commission which supports beneficiary authorities in the process of harmonization and implementation of EU legislation and facilitates the exchange of EU best practices.
