Romanians elect president today

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - Romanians are waited at the ballot boxes to elect their president during the run-off. Moldovans holding the Romanian citizenship are also to give their vote at those 21 polling stations opened in Moldova. 

The voting started at 7.00 and will close at 21.00. Most polling stations were opened in Chisinau – four in whole. At the same time, by one election station will work in Balti, Cahul, Cantemir, Cimislia, Calarasi, Drochia, Edinet, Floresti, Falesti, Giurgiulesti, Hincesti, Ialoveni, Leova, Nisporeni, Orhei, Soroca and Ungheni. The witnesses said that queues at the polling stations from Chisinau had been noticed already early in the morning. 

The citizens may vote only after they declare in written form, on their own responsibility, that they had not voted earlier and will not vote in this poll. In order to avoid queue, the authorities urge the voters to download this declaration from the internet, to fill it earlier, but to sign and date it within the election station. 

The Romanian citizens residing abroad may vote at the polling stations from Moldova on the basis of the simple, electronic or temporary passport and travel documents. On the other hand, Romanians domiciled in Romania may vote with the passport, travel documents, identity card.

Today, Romanians with the right to vote must choose between present Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta and mayor of Sibiu city Klaus Iohannis. During the first round of elections, held on 2 November, about 22,000 citizens voted in Moldova. In whole, over 18 million people are expected to vote on 16 November.
