Moldovan PM meets Austrian president

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - Austrian President Heinz Fischer met Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today. Fischer said that "Moldova is a developing country, with real chances to advance on the path towards EU”. The sides addressed Moldova's European agenda, attraction of Austrian investments into the Moldovan economy, fostering of the political dialogue, regional evolutions, etc., the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
Iurie Leanca praised the EU support, especially the Austria's one, in the process of getting closer to the European Union, during Moldova's modernisation. „The European integration, by joining EU, continues to be the priority and strategic goal of Moldova's development. We will appreciate the support of Austria by the efforts taken by Moldova in this respect,” Leanca said. Iurie Leanca assured that the Moldovan authorities would further implement reforms, including in fighting corruption.
In the context, Heinz Fischer welcomed Moldova's efforts to access the European path. The official underlined that Moldova was a developing country, with a growing economy, with social projects meant to provide people with a better life. Fisher described the bilateral ties as positive and said that these were continuously developing, being on the rise.
Heinz Fischer's visit is considered as an extremely important one, as it is the first visit of an Austrian president to Moldova, since the bilateral diplomatic ties have been set. In the context of this visit, a Moldovan-Austrian economic forum. Companies of the two states participate in the event. During the forum, the emphasis will be put on items related to infrastructure and energy, chances of development of projects and investments in agriculture. Austria ranks 11th in the top of EU states to which Moldova exports goods.
Moldova and Austria have concluded 16 international treaties so far. The main joint interest areas are: economic cooperation, avoidance of double taxation, air services, fighting criminality, social protection and agriculture.
