Moldovan premier, UN resident coordinator discuss agenda, joint goals

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip and UN resident Coordinator, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) Dafina Gherceva held a meeting today. The officials discussed programmes implemented by Moldova with the UN support and touched upon ways to boost up bilateral collaboration, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Filip highlighted the role UN plays in Moldova’s modernization process, thanking it for its valuable support in the implementation of reforms in priority sectors, such as justice, fighting corruption, development of energy sector, environment protection, social and medical reform, gender equality and human rights.
“The government that I am heading is determined to accomplish concrete goals to overcome the financial crisis, unblock external assistance and investment projects. Resuming talks with foreign partners and regaining the confidence of the society are among the main priorities of the government’s agenda,” Filip said.
The prime minister has also spoken out for boosting up cooperation between the Moldovan government and UNDP, especially in the reform of central and local public administration, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the Moldovan public service.
For her part, Gherceva reconfirmed UN’s openness to back the goals of the Moldovan government. The UN representative touched upon the important need to continue the dialogue on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. The sides agreed to have a constructive cooperation in order to reach their joint goal and improve life standards for Moldovan citizens.
